Soomka.Com Here are some things I wrote for my own use that work fine for my purposes. Your mileage may vary. They have only been (so far) tested under Linux. None have been tested under UNIX but they will probably port with a small amount of work. This site is generously hosted on a server owned by Dentar, Inc., a well-qualified Cincinnati UNIX and Linux Consultant.

Quizzy 0.91
Quizzy 0.90
change log
Quizzy is a program I wrote for myself that acts like some of the Microsoft Windows style quizzers. It only does multiple choice so far. It runs best using xterm or ansi emulation, and works fine in vt100. The linux console or xterm is the most recommended.

Off/Respawn 0.09
change log
Off/Respawn is a script I wrote for easier editing of the /etc/inittab. All it does is change off to respawn or respawn to off and then does an init q. It sure saves a lot of typing when experimenting with daemons!

RP 2.1
(not written by me, but I added to it...)

RP is a tool for allowing one to telnet backwards through a firewall. You have to be able to get access to the inside machine first, though, to get the client on the machine. I've only tested it on Linux. The terminal emulation now works. The real home for this utility (and the original author) is Matt Miller at Hick.org, and this link is likely more up-to-date.
(ssh port forwarding obviously obsoletes this...)

Jooky 0.99h
You might also want these to add to jooky

mad libraries for id3 tags
vorbis-tools (ogg123)
libvorbis and libvorbisfile
Jooky is an mp3 controller. I wrote it so that I can do any of:
- Run it in the foreground in a curses screen.
- Run it in the background and control it using itself as a client via tcp/ip from another host or the same host.
- Run it from /etc/inittab and control it as above.
- It also can play in random order (scramble). - The reason for the client/server is that I can now control it with LIRC. (Linux infrared control)

StatWeb 0.80
StatWeb is a program that I wrote for cgi-bin. I use mine at home to control X-10 devices. However, you can do damn near anything with it that you can do from the command line, provided you don't have to be interactive. (i.e bottlerocket, cat /proc/uptime, tail /var/adm/messages, or whatever...) Basically it's a web interface to run unix commands at home from the web. I wrote it specifically for X-10 and lircd (linux infrared control) though.

Tailbeep-0.10
Tailbeep-0.20
Tailbeep-0.30
Tailbeep-0.41
Tailbeep-0.43
Tailbeep-0.44
Tailbeep-0.45
Tailbeep-0.46
Tailbeep opens a file (-f), seeks to the end, and watches for a string (-s). If the string is found, a beep is sent to the specified tty (-t) device. You can also daemonize (-d) it. I wrote it so I could watch /var/log/messages for the DENY string (so I can tell if someone is trying to break into the firewall.) 0.3 adds speech and debugging. 0.41 adds the ability to speak a predefined message OR say the watched line, and -V (version) information. Tested under linux, perhaps someone can port it to other UNIX variants??

Clockywock-0.2.2
Clockywock-0.2.3
Clockywock-0.2.3C
Clockywock-0.2.3D
Clockywock-0.2.3E
Clockywock is a cool ncurses ANALOG clock. I use it all the time! It's been around for a few years now and it still gets looks from slack jawed yokels all the time.

Ransom-0.1
This is a stdin/stdout style filter that will make text look like a ransom note.

ThIS Is a StDiN/sTDOUT sTyle FilteR tHAT wILl MaKE TeXt lOOk LIke A Ransom nOTE.

What the hell does "soomka" mean anyway??
